Collage Art Journal: Pages 18-19

I have two collage journal pages to share with you today.  The first one I’m calling Stroll.

I was taken by the image of the model – actress Alicia Vikander – walking on some Louis Vuitton luggage and decided to place her on water.  I had the image you see in the background of a wall of rocks in the ocean and wanted to just use that as is.  While rummaging through my stash, I also came across a black and white photo of some rocks and thought the luggage sitting on top of the rocks in the water would make a more complete scene.

At the time I made this collage, I was still figuring out how to apply the Yes! paste to magazine paper and was overdoing it with the adhesive (surprise, surprise).  As a result a couple of my collages ended up being ruined because the paste started mixing in with the inks on the magazine paper and discoloring the images.  At least that’s what I figured happened, because once I started applying less paste, the problem no longer occurred.  Anyway, Stroll suffered the consequences of my overgluing, as you can see the discoloration on the model’s arm here:

I had the image of the woman with the wheelbarrow and had really wanted to use her in a collage, but did not have the right background image until I found the garden image from a magazine.  It was just perfect.  But there was a bit of text in the upper right corner, so I slapped some yellow paint on it in an attempt to cover it up.  Not the best thing to do in terms of choice of color, but I was going for the easy fix.

One of these days, I will need to take a basic painting class on how to properly mix paints to get just the right shade.

If I had had the patience, I might have tried to do a better job of cutting around the leaves on the ground.  As it is I left a lot of the concrete in.

Regardless, I think it looks fine.  Sometimes I let too much of my left brain into my work!

That’s it for today.  See you next time with two more collages :0)
