Collage Art Journal Pages: Women in Garden and Among Rocks

Sorry for the long hiatus from blogging!  I encountered some problems with the admin side of my blog, and then life got in the way.  But I’m back with two more collages from my journal.

The black and white image of the woman caught my eye because of the somber expression on her face.  I thought she would make an interesting juxtaposition against the colorful flowers from a catalog.  I decided to make her look like she was sitting among the flowers, contemplating.  I cut away the flowers and leaves, glued the woman onto the background, and then glued the flowers over her.

I thought the large size and bright colors of the flowers overwhelmed the black and white image of the woman, so I decided to draw more interest and add more color to her.  I cut out more flowers and made a head wreath for her.  They also helped carry out the floral theme.

I still felt the woman didn’t have enough color, so I decided to apply bright red paint to her lips.

Funny how just a touch of color makes a marked difference.

There was text along the bottom of the image of the flowers.  I decided to cover it up by going over it with a green oil pastel.

Not the best cover-up, I’ll admit.  The other option was to trim away the text, but I didn’t want to lose any of the flowers.

I got this image of some standing rock structures in a field from an old National Geographic magazine and decided to bring a little activity to them, kind of reminscent of kids playing among trees.  I had a small image of a woman running in a dress that fit perfectly in between the two large structures.  I had to cut slits into the sides of the rocks so that I could tuck the woman’s legs behind them.

I’m now wondering if I should have positioned her hind leg in front of the first rock so that the woman would look like she was running in front of the first and behind the second.  Do you think I overthink things??

I guess I could have called it a day after I glued the woman down, but I had another image of a woman kicking around a hat that I thought would be a fitting addition to the scene.

Well that’s two more down.  I have a lot of catching up to do, as I keep making collages, and I am nowhere near close to catching up in my blogging, sharing them with you.  I may start posting four collages at a time.  If you want to see all the collages I’ve made so far, check out my Instagram page.  I’m all caught up there!

Have a great weekend!
