Welcome to My Creative Blog

My stuffies

Well, I’m finally doing it; I’m finally starting a blog. I have been wanting to start one for several years now, but fear and lack of time held me back. Plus, not knowing what I should focus on. I just decided I’m going to start blogging about some of my passions, including crafting, baking, cooking, storytelling, etc, and see where it takes me. I’ll be letting you in on my craft projects, sharing recipes, introducing you to my stuffed animals, and amusing you (hopefully) with my stories starring my plushies.

A little bit about me: I was born and raised in San Francisco to Chinese immigrant parents. I have one brother. I worked in the biotech industry for 18 years, and although I am grateful for having had the opportunity working for my company, after so many years and changes to the corporate culture, I realized it had robbed me of all joy. So I left corporate life in 2010 to work for myself (I had started an eBay business in 2005) and explore life a little – something that I had not had the freedom to really do while working for a company. I discovered my life purpose – to live in freedom with creativity and simplicity – and am now focused on realigning myself with my purpose.

I recently completed the children’s writing program at the Institute of Children’s Literature. I decided to enroll in the program because I have always loved to create stories with my stuffed animals. They are like my little buddies :0)

I have a major sweet tooth and love to learn about sweets from other cultures and countries. Sometimes I feel as if the sweet tooth gene missed everyone else in my family, and I made up for it, as I am the only one in my immediate family who loves sweets. I’ve captured some of my fascination with sweets on Pinterest.

I love to eat, not just sweets, but all sorts of good things. Food has a way of evoking strong memories of time spent with family, of making do with what you have, and it is these aspects of cooking and eating that I would love to explore. I have another board on Pinterest devoted to non-sweets. When I get bored with eating the same thing, I like trying out new dishes, some of which I’ve collected in my recipe Pin board.

I came to crafting late, only in the last five to ten years. I started out with cardmaking and have progressed to other types of crafting, including other types of papercrafting. The place that really ignited the crafting bug in me is Castle in the Air – a Studio for the Imagination – in Berkeley. The artists who teach there, especially John McRae and Ulla Milbrath are amazing. If I could be like either one of them, that would be like a dream come true. I share some of my favorite handmade art and items on Pinterest.

And finally, after having to write boring, technical stuff at my corporate job, and after some encouragement from two acquaintances, I decided to pursue my love for the written word and start my blog to use my writing skills to share my ideas with an audience. I’m not only sharing my interests with all of you, but I get to indulge in my love for writing.

Anyway, these are just some of the topics I will be exploring in my blog. I hope you will join me in my creative endeavors, and I look forward to your feedback :0)
